Nutsedge punches straight through that plastic. In nearby citrus groves, already weakened by citrus greening, horseweed and other broadleaf weeds compete for water and nutrients under the tree canopy. Growers fight both problems with a shrinking list of herbicides, as regulatory changes and product withdrawals remove options almost every season. This seminar uses Florida plasticulture and citrus as a case study in managing weeds with fewer chemical tools. It presents field results on herbicide performance, crop safety, and herbicide behavior in sandy soils, then turns to new work screening Florida purple and yellow nutsedge populations for reduced herbicide sensitivity.
